For the first time this year, the Ford Focus was the top selling car, knocking the Ford Fiesta off its number one place. The Vauxhall Astra came in at number two, with the Fiesta sitting comfortably at three. Sales in the private sector rose by just over 12% whilst the fleet market new car sales increased by 16%.

The Ford Focus has had a long standing in the car industry with a good reputation. Launched in July 1998, it quickly became a popular car in its class. Quiet on the road, sturdily built coupled with good running costs and spacious for passengers and bags, made the Focus a popular choice for small families. There is a wide range of versions available from the entry level 1.6 Style to the 2.5 RS500 3dr.

The top ten list of best selling cars in May were 1. Ford Focus 2. Vauxhall Astra 3. Ford Fiesta 4. Vauxhall Corsa 5. VW Golf 6. BMW 3 Series 7. VW Polo 8. Mini 9. Nissan Qashqai 10. Audi A3 Its no coincidence that the Ford Fiesta usually tops the charts, as most of these lists tend to have the smaller class cars, which are more affordable and family friendly at the top, whilst the more expensive and luxurious the car the lower down on the list they tend to be. There will always be a high demand for cars like the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus for young people, families, ambitious executives and old people alike which is why they sell in their millions year after year.
