Monsoon car launches - Autos - Cars

The past few months saw the launch of a number of cars across segments in the Indian car market. Ever since the New Delhi Auto Expo there have been lots of models that have been in the pipeline. The Indian car market is all set to get two new cars in the months of June and July. Here is a preview of all three.

Firstly, the car that is expected to make it to the Indian shores in June is the top of the line super luxury Volkswagen Phaeton at an ex showroom price tag of Rs 76.3 lakh. The car would be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), third in the line after Touareg and the new Beetle. According to Neeraj Garg, member of the board and director cars, Volkswagen India, "We have no bookings for the Phaeton since it is in a niche segment." The Volkswagen Phaeton's speculated specifications include a 3.6L V6 Petrol capable of producing 280 PS (206kW) at 6250 rpm and 370 Nm at 3500 rpm. The car would have a 6 Speed tiptronic system and 17" Impression Alloy Wheels (235/55 R17).

This is not all as the Volkswagen group's Chakan plant is gearing up for the launch of an all new sedan the Volkswagen Vento (which means wind in Portuguese and Italian). The plant is all set to produce approximately 100 cars a day now as the production of Vento is set to commence from July. But the car would be available only later in the year. The Volkswagen Vento would be available in both diesel and petrol models. The Volkswagen Vento would have the Polo's 1.6-litre petrol engine. The engine would most probably be imported.

The second car to start bookings in India is the eagerly awaited and much anticipated Nissan Micra. The India unit of Nissan Motor would start selling Micra hatchback from July. The cars would be in the showrooms in India from May 25 and the bookings would commence thereon. The Nissan Micra has been designed keeping in mind the needs of the Indian buyer and the car would be available in 150 countries. News is that the Nissan Micra would come in six variants with both petrol and diesel engine option. Nissan Micra is expected to have a 1.2L, 1240cc petrol engine and a 1.4L, 1386cc petrol engine capable of generating 80PS at 5200rpm with 110Nm of maximum torque at 3600rpm and 88PS power at 5200rpm with maximum torque of 128Nm at 3200rpm. While the 1.5L, 1461cc diesel engine would be capable of generating 86PS power at 3750rpm with maximum torque of 200Nm at 1900rpm.
